The urban-type settlement Skhidnytsia is located in the Lviv region, in a wide valley in the foothills of the Ukrainian Carpathians, at an altitude of six hundred to nine hundred meters above sea level.
According to folk tales, in ancient times the village was called Zolota Banya. It got its name due to the fact that there was a saltworks here a long time ago. Clever peasants extracted oil from the ground, from which salt was evaporated. Water was collected in the saltworks, which over time acquired a golden hue due to the fact that there was a lot of iron in it. Such a saltworks sparkled with gold in the sun and looked like gold from a height. Another legend says that earthen wax was made here, which also sparkled gold in the sun. It is also said that someone found a nugget of gold in the mountains, which blacksmiths used to cover the dome of the church.
